KARL ROVE WAS NOT HAPPY when the legion of anonymous forces he once led turned and attacked him [story]   Bush's Brain discovered what Bush's dick could do.  Rove who initially confessed to nothing finally confessed the President was covering his own big ass, not Rove's ass which had shrunken with his ego as the investigation that could not be commented on publicly by the White House could now be commented on anononymously by that same White House. 

THE ONLY ANONYMOUS SOURCE in Rove's cell indicated the President was doing what was best for the President, but the president was also a major league a$$hole.

DAN FROOMKIN HAS THE USUAL of links in the press and to blogs plus  more [WaPo] Some of the possible downsides of the investigation -- other than for the White House, of course -- were also laid out today by the Washington Post editorial board and Slate editor Jacob Weisberg .

The Post wrote that "so far, in the accounts given by reporters about their conversations with administration officials . . . [w]hat has been depicted is an administration effort to refute the allegations of a critic (some of which did in fact prove to be untrue) and to undermine his credibility, including by suggesting that nepotism rather than qualifications led to his selection. If such conversations are deemed a crime, journalism and the public will be the losers."

Weisberg writes: "Anyone who cares about civil liberties, freedom of information, or even just fair play should have been skeptical about Fitzgerald's investigation from the start."

But the lessons to be learned from this investigation will, of course, depend on what Fitzgerald comes up with.

NO REPORT FROM FITZGERALD? [Steve Soto/ The Left Coaster] The New York Times is running a story in Wednesday’s edition that makes two new points: first, according to sources, Fitzgerald will not be taking any action this week. With the grand jury meeting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week, this means that Fitzgerald will be reviewing the case and possible conclusions with them on Wednesday and Friday of this week before anything will come down next week. But it is the second piece of news that troubles me.

The Times also reports that Fitzgerald has decided not to issue a final report of the investigation, even though Democrats have already asked for one. This means that Fitzgerald has left himself with two choices: he will either shut down his inquiry next week with nothing of consequence and no public report of the evidence collected and grand jury decisions, or he will put the whole case and investigation into whatever indictments he and the grand jury make. That is an all-or-nothing proposition that frankly has me concerned, given this late date just before the conclusion of this grand jury.
