GEORGE BUSH LOOKED AT SUPREME COURT NOMINEE HARRIET MIERS [story] His brilliant choice reflected on her and her brilliance reflected back on him. The White House got so bright today, many could not see some were not so happy as the people so happy with themselves. [story] [White House transcript]

SOME saw something else besides Miers and popped off. SOME say Harry Reid likes Harriet Miers. SOME are no longer wild about Harry.

FOOLS RUSH IN [Media Girl] Miers is the attenuated virus to stimulate the white corpuscles in the right wing body, thus strengthening the body against infection. Miers could be rejected and a verifiable wingnut will be called in to unite the right.

Meanwhile, such developments would further alienate the Democratic Party-über-alles folks from progressive voters, who already are rather mistrustful of aspiring flacks, perhaps for good reason. In other words, it could be that Miers was nominated to be rejected by a bipartisan bloc, leading to reactions that will strengthen the Republicans while pitting the Democrat appeasers against their progressive voter base.

Too crazy? Too Machiavellian for Karl Rove? Come on, be honest now.

THE HERETIK ASKED yesterday if Karl Rove was too distracted to play his usual tricks. Perhaps Rove is back and seeking both division of Democrats and addition of a more hardline candidate for the bench. If Miers indeed is as loyal to Bush as indicated, perhaps she would be willing to midwife the birth of a more harsh misbegotten mensch uber alles.

BUSH'S "PETER PRINCIPLE" APPOINTMENT [Agitprop] Harriet Miers will forever be known as the Michael Brown of the federal judiciary. If Michael Brown epitomized Bush-era cronyism in the executive branch, Miers--who has no judicial experience whatsoever--will be the holy beacon of cronyism in the judiciary. By nominating his own personal lawyer to the highest court in the land, Bush has proved that he still has some cojones.

THE HERETIK CONCEDES BUSH now has balls. Last time he had to prove that we ended up in Iraq. Last week White House flacks said his wife Laura stole his swagger . Things get stranger and stranger still.

NEWSFLASH: BUSH NOMINEE HAS VAGINA [Liberal Serving] Bush Slips another slippery croney no-name to us, hoping he can pack the most important court in the country with evil stepford lawyers who will judge us back to the stone age, smiling all the while invisible radio waves carry karl rove's orders via brain-implanted transponders.

ENOUGH FOR EVERYBODY [Chicago Law] A reasonable conclusion is that this nomination should be viewed with uncertainty and puzzlement. A silver lining: The uncertainty and puzzlement should not divide people along political lines.

THE HERETIK NOW ASKS if we have reached that special moment Bush always said would happen, when people would lift there eyes to heaven and see him the uniter, not the divider. Then the people would speak in one voice. Unfortunately for Bush in this case, that one voice now says: WTF?

I honestly think Bush picked this woman because he likes her and she's loyal.

I don't think it's a Rovian trick. The Democrats aren't going to come out against her. Hell..Reid recommended her to Bush, according to AP.

If she fails, it's due to Republicans jumping ship..not Democratic roadblocks. Given the propensity for the GOP to go along with Bush, she'll likely sail right through.

Bush is a lame duck who's numbers are in the toilet and who's legislative leadership are looking like they'll be doing perp walks. He doesn't have the political capitol to nominate a winger, IMO.

I have an idea - he picked her because Fitzgerald is about to conclude his investigation. And Rove and Bush needed to set up a full-scale SCOTUS brawl to distract from the results.

But that's just a neat idea. Deep down, I really agree with Karla.

I think Carla's right here. He can't get a true wingnut through Congress, so he has to settle for a crony, which I suspect is just fine with Bush. It's a matter of loyalty. George W. Bush thinks he's competent to be President. Shouldn't be a suprise that he thinks just about anyone's competent to be a Supreme Court Justice. If competence isn't an issue, and ideology off the table, then he can just go with his gut. His gut wants a pal on the Court.

This Administration has never been about Right Wing ideology anyway. It's been about making money. Ideology is just something that Karl Rove can use to manipulate people. Rove isn't a genius and his success has never been in Machiavellian scheming. It's been in keeping the party faithful riled up and in line for voting day. They don't need to do that anymore.

I think it's a stealth attack. She virulently anti-choice. If the Dems oppose her, we'll end up with a Priscilla Owens; if they don't, she and John Roberts are going to do away with all kinds of sexual sovereignty - have you seen what's happening in Indiana? That's only the beginning. These are dark times, my children.
