NEW DEPARTMENT OF STRATEGERY DECLARES WAR ON TERROR OVER Endless Struggle Against Extremism Begins, Must Use All Tools (and All Money) in Fight that Must Be Won. A subtle shift in language indicates we face . . . the same old McKrap with a brand new label. Maybe Bush and his advisors have figured out people aren’t buying the idea of ENDLESS WAR until the end of time, maybe longer. Much better to cast this as the good guys versus the bad guys in an ENDLESS STRUGGLE against EXTREMISM. In this BATTLE, we of course are the good guys. Maybe we should start with the extremists who lied us into a WAR.

[NY TIMES]In recent speeches and news conferences, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and the nation's senior military officer have spoken of "a global struggle against violent extremism" rather than "the global war on terror," which had been the catchphrase of choice. Administration officials say that phrase may have outlived its usefulness, because it focused attention solely, and incorrectly, on the military campaign.
Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the National Press Club on Monday that he had "objected to the use of the term 'war on terrorism' before, because if you call it a war, then you think of people in uniform as being the solution." He said the threat instead should be defined as violent extremists, with the recognition that "terror is the method they use." Although the military is heavily engaged in the mission now, he said, future efforts require "all instruments of our national power, all instruments of the international communities' national power." The solution is "more
diplomatic, more economic, more political than it is military," he concluded.
THE HERETIK REMEMBERS HANS BLIX, and the rest of the world said this about the MISSION in Iraq a few hundred billion dollars ago. Whether time run in a straight line I will leave to men of science and WOMEN of philosophy, but history is running circles around Bush right now.

[CNN]``Brother Muslim: Don't ever come close to the sites of vice and infidelity so that you won't get hurt,'' said the statement, which appeared on a Web site known for carrying extremist Islamist material. The statement advised Sunnis to stay away from Baghdad International Airport, which the group claimed ``is a hide out for the crusaders and the renegades.''

Positive alternatives should sound good. Positive alternatives are meant to sound good. But the corporate, capitalist, enslaving ideals of the US govt, I don’t think of as positive alternatives. And Bush’s idea of freedom is very different from mine. Bush and I have a big clash of ideas going.
“Positive alternative” is, I think, a very strong Pavlovian buzz phrase for many people. “Ah, positive alternatives.” Comes with lots of super powerful cleaning fluids.
The heady scent of oxytocin.
[BLOGENLUST] Of course, I also doubt that they're going to actually do anything
differently. Their idea of outside the box thinking for fighting the
"global struggle against violence extremism", is not to attack the root
causes of terrorism, but to next time use tactical nuclear weapons.
I only wish they would spend as much time thinking about reconfiguring
their policies, as they do on thinking how they're going to sell them
to us.

The Purpose of The Ave Maria List is very clear.
To restore a culture of life by promoting issues and nominations important to Catholics and electing candidates who are committed to action on these issues.
"The Ave Maria List was formed in response to the Holy Father's call for Catholics to engage their faith in the political arena, and given the state of our culture, it is important to have such an organization available to Catholics who want to make a difference in key political races. They have made an impact in these races, and with Catholics from around the country uniting behind this bold idea, it will continue to make its growing presence known. For too long, the liberal establishment has gone unchallenged by an organized effort from lay Catholics, and am grateful to have the Ave Maria List doing the important work they are."
