In other news, today was the birthday of Adolph Hitler. Let us not forget the true nature of Hitler: not as an embodiment of pure evil, but, rather, as a mirror showing the evil that lived in the heart of the German people. For Hitler invaded not a single country personally, killed not a single Jew personally. If no German had followed him, Hitler would have just been a frustrated painter raving about Jews down at the local beer hall, no different from millions of other disaffected Germans trying to survive in the aftermath of the holocaust that was WWI upon the German nation, where they lost a third of their territory and most of a generation and all of their wealth and industrial might.

But Hitler dared speak what the majority of Germans felt in their heart, and they followed him. He served as their mirror, and they shined in the glow of their own reflected hatred and spite.

Bush, DeLay, Frist, this bunch show that what lives at the heart of the American soul today is more like Germany in 1929 than the lofty ideals of Martin Luther King. And may the Lord have mercy upon our souls... for it took nothing less than complete and utter national disaster for the German people to realize the error of their ways. What will it take for the American people to renounce the way of evil, and instead embrace the lofty goals of Martin Luther King Jr.? I shudder to think of what it will take, for surely it shall be some stern and decisive retribution indeed...
