George W. Bush Announces John Negroponte
as Director of National Intelligence at White
House Press Conference February 17, 2005:
I'm pleased to announce my decision to nominate
Ambassador John Negroponte as Director of
National Intelligence.
Pretty sure the Salvadorans who saw the death
squads are not so pleased.
The
Director's responsibility is straightforward
and demanding.
El Exigente? The Demanding One?
The coffee guy?
John will
make sure that those whose duty i
t is to defend America have the
information
we need to make the right decisions.
Are there any more decisions that could
be more wrong than assisting death squads
in the murder of innocents like nuns and
missionaries? If those are the right ones,
it's probably good that we don't know
about the really wrong ones.
John understands
America's global
intelligence needs because he spent
the better part of
his life in our foreign
service, and is now serving with distinction
in
the sensitive post of our nation's first
Ambassador to a free Iraq.
See above. What could the really bad part of his life be?

The Queen Commands
British churchgoers are to be commanded by royal

to pray for Camilla Parker Bowles
as part of regular Sunday services
after
her marriage to the Prince of Wales on April 8.
That should really pack 'em in the pews.
