SENATOR BILL FRIST WANTS an inquiry into the leaking of reports of black site CIA torture prisons in Eastern Europe. We may be assured this has nothing to do with stealing the headlines from the PlameOut investigation which reaches further and further into the White House. Politics has nothing to do with this according to the good doctor and that paragon of Republican political virtue Dennis Hastert. [story]
"If accurate, such an egregious disclosure could have long-term and far-reaching damaging and dangerous consequences, and will imperil our efforts to protect the American people and our homeland from terrorist attacks," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) wrote in a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate intelligence committees.BUT TRENT LOTT FROSTS Frist by publicly stating it the likely leaker is a Republican senator. [Raw Story]
The revelation appears to torpedo the political gambit of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) who called on the Senate and House intelligence committees to investigate who leaked the information to the Post.
FRIST MAY LIKE the likely leaker less if it turns out to be either of noted Republican torture critics John McCain or Lindsay Graham. Would such a leak pee all over McCain’s presidential Cheerios? Or would the leak make Lindsay go Graham crackers? Frist eats something other than the Breakfast of Champions today. Meanwhile The Sissy Six look forward to making a strong, smart statement on pre war intelligence. Oy.

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Pat Roberts, Republican of Kansas, said he was willing to undertake the inquiry but acknowledged that leak investigations were notoriously difficult.
Another Republican member of the Intelligence Committee, Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, indicated skepticism at such an inquiry. Mr. Lott noted that accounts of a private discussion on detainee policy between Mr. Cheney and Senate Republicans last week had also leaked to the press.
"When you get into investigations around here, where does it end?" he said. "Who is going to investigate who?"
AS FAR AS THE LEAKS GO some senators may end up peeing on other senators' legs in someplace other than the Congressional gym shower. That is all for now. The Heretik has gotta go.
