POLLS: BUSH BLOWS
The Katrina Blowout Edition Katrina blew in and blew out. George Bush's response just blows
Seventy Percent Say Bush Sucks Rasmussen Poll numbers (via Echidne). Bring Out Your Dead The Story on What Bush Doesn't Want Us to See from Attaturk (via Watertiger)
Spin Dentist/ All Spin Zone: This tragedy in New Orleans and throughout the South is brought home to us most forcefully in pictures. Images are what feed our outrage, what let us know that something has gone far wrong. Well, clearly the Bushies don't want us outraged, and they want to pretend this was all just an accident.
Columbia Journalism Review: Sensitivity for the dead and their family members is paramount, no question. But the press also needs to be careful that the administration doesn't take political advantage of this sensitivity in order to shroud from the public the most tangible -- and tragic --outcome of governmental ineptitude.
FEMA's demand seems frustratingly similar to the Pentagon's directive, at the start of the war in Iraq, that "there will be no arrival ceremonies for, or media coverage of, deceased military personnel returning to or departing from Ramstein [Germany] airbase or Dover [Del.] base, to include interim stops."
It took the work of a lone blogger, The Memory Hole, to get the ball rolling on releasing the images of those flag-draped coffins, and a lawsuit, settled only this past April, to keep those photos coming.
Let us not let years go by before we see, firsthand, the ramifications of this cataclysmic catastrophe.THE SHORT AND NOT SO SWEET Pam says: If the U.S. media goes to sleep under pressure from FEMA, the only real reporting that will hit the airwaves and the 'Net is going to come from foreign sources willing to show the horror.
THE HERETIK FINDS it absolutely appalling that Bush is working to manipulate again how we respond by censoring what we see. Actions have effects and consequences. Those consequences affect us all, some forever. If we cannot see the consequences, error unfairly gets its chance to repeat itself endlessly.

Hello Mr. Heretik, I am Neil Shakespeare's dog, Osama, and I just want to thank you for plastering my picture up on the Internet. I have been getting lots of pornographic emails from both male AND female dogs offering their services. Just to let you know I will be posting for Neil while he is off to the shoulder of Mars to interview the Intelligent Designer. My first post is my perspective on 'Gay Marriage', inspired by the thoughts of Some Watery Tart. I have been a fan of your column for some time. I especially like your Kool-Aid Pitcher Guy. Bye for now, Osama...

Speaking of hugh, potential disasters, I managed to avoid mine and am still employed. Hell, I even got a hint of support from my Ex. D. (executive director) when he commented about the games my fellow co-workers play.
