When War Goes Badly, Count on Body Counts to Tell the Tale. When hearts and minds are lost, a collection of corpses will convince. Or not. The lesson of Vietnam remains unlearned.
[Washington Post] Using enemy body counts as a benchmark, the U.S. military claimed gains against Abu Musab Zarqawi's foreign-led fighters last week even as they mounted their deadliest attacks on Iraq's capital.
When We Fight Wars Already Lost, our opponents morph into monsters, but are only men. We end up with monster policy. “Zarqawi” is one of many invisible men, made visible for one great effect.
If “Zarqawi” Didn’t Exist, Rumsfeld would have had to invent him so that Bush could continue his delusion. “Foreign led fighter” would put Bush heroically stemming the tide of terror. But the tide of warriors springs from Iraqi souls more than from foreigners. The tide of blood sweeps across the sand. And the tide of opinion has turned on Bush.
Expect To Hear Much More of our “success” as even more losses mount.RELATED HERETIK POSTS:

Enemy body counts? Did we do that in Vietnam, too?
They'll never learn. There's practically an infinite supply of people willing to come out an fight against the great US. Bush has seen to that.
It's a hydra. For every head cut off..two more appear.
