FROM THE BLOG CAPITOL OF THE WORLD
PHILADELPHIA MAY BE THE BLOG CAPITOL OF THE WORLD. Besides the big dog Atrios, lots of others offer a good bite: ALL SPIN ZONE, CORRENTE, SUSIE MADRAK are all well known. Matt is a REGULAR READ and I like what the Tart Tongued Harpy CRANKS OUT. J Lo is has a BLOG. But todayâs highest recommend goes to Thom H. at SOCIETAS. If The Heretik went as deep as Thom, surely The Heretik would drown.
CHECK SOCIETAS on Civil Liberties HERE for a start. The Heretik has seen Thom at the forefront of discussion on the Patriot Act and on Guantanamo. We agree both the Patriot Act and Guantanamo are disturbing attempts to expand executive power. Wander over and wonder. What blogs make you go oy?
O Heretik, I'm going to blogwhore and say OY! Last night, I made my first graphic. It's nowhere near as good as yours, but it is an expression of Pat Robertson's wildest fantasies.

Pep: all the graphic needs is a behemoth cross around his neck and a bible dripping with blood in one of his hands

Well your just chock full of good deals today! Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

I thank the Heretik for his extravagant compliment even though the post linked mostly just quotes from and comments on Spencer Ackerman’s Island Mentality.
Likewise, as for Philly as the unofficial center of left-progressive blogosphere, a few people have shared their thoughts on that starting with Susie M.
Besides the folks you mentioned, we also boast my fellow ACLU supporter @ the Disenchanted Forest, Billmon @ Whiskey Bar, Mithras @ Fables of the reconstruction, the Unholy Alliance member & winner in both the respect and popularity categories, Matt @ The Tattered Coat, and dozens of others in the Philly Future blogroll. Of course, I'm always willing to mention Medbh Sings who gets involved with and stays on top of the issues.
So why Philly -- beyond what everyone has said? We've got two world-quality public radio stations: WXPN (World Cafe) and WHYY (Radio Times; Fresh Air). Comparatively and numerically, we've got more universities and colleges in the greater Philly area (city and immediate burbs) than does greater Boston. People actually think, converse and innovate here. We've got a decent share of the Creative Class, some might argue.
Who knows. If it keeps up, maybe someday historians of the blogosphere will talk about Philly in the mid-2000s the way they do of Harlem or Paris in the 1920s. Probably not, but I'll toss it out as a goal for the Drinking Liberally Crowd. (That, and of the Tangiers folks, right now only Matt links me. There ya go, H: no honor in my hometown).
For anyone interested, the Hereitk (payment is on the way, buddy) knows that I have bunch o' posts on GITMO. So I appreciate his recognition of this effort--but offer no promises about quality or efficacy.
H, thanks again for the support and the shout-out. Best to all, Thom H.

Thom H, you sell yourself short. Even your analysis of why Philly has all these great blogger is emblematic of why you are a blog star.

OC. That's right. As does Mebdh. Just that I've don't recall meeting either of you two @ DL /Tangiers, so I was more teasing them. That's all. No dis' intended. As H knows, I've been singing the praises of Disenchanted Forest to Lefty Lounge crowd.
