CONSCIENCE BY THE NUMBERS

CONSCIENCE BEGINS WITH ONE One person can stand against nothing.  One person can stand against everything. Conscience realizes everything is not alright. Conscience disagrees that nothing can be done.  Conscience need not have its answer.  Conscience is a question.

AS ONE CONSCIENCE SAID WHEN LIES DID SHOUT: "Our apologies, good friends, for the fracture of good order, the burning of paper instead of children, the angering of the orderlies in the front parlor of the charnel house...The time is past when good men can remain silent, when obedience can segregate men from public risk, when the poor can die without defense."

LIES FALL when truth stands up.  The truth of one conscience that asks a question has changed the world before. No doubt truth and one conscience will change our world again.

Excellent post, Heretik.

I recently read an article in the Nation about the mother of Emmett Till who was the 14 year boy who was beaten, shot and dropped in a river in Missippi because he whistled at a white woman. What makes this story important is that his mother demanded that his coffin be open. She wanted the world to see the inhumanity of Jim Crow. This was 1954, a long time before MLK.
