DOWNING STREET: F*CK SADDAM! WE'RE TAKING HIM OUT.
GEORGE W. BUSH: He’s a Pistol. And His Own Words Are the Real Downing Street Smoking Gun. People say things in unguarded moments. The idea that a sitting President could poke his head in a briefing meeting National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice is conducting with three Republican senators and say this is astounding. If you want to know whether George W. Bush had decided on war well before he now claims, what more proof do you need?
Why has no one asked Bush directly about this?
As he marched the nation to war, Bush presented himself as a Christian man of peace who saw war only as a last resort. But in a remarkable though little noted disclosure, Time magazine reported that in March 2002 – a full year before the invasion – Bush outlined his real thinking to three U.S. senators, “Fuck Saddam,” Bush said. “We’re taking him out.”
Time actually didn’t report the quote exactly that way. Apparently not to offend readers who admire Bush’s moral clarity, Time printed the quote as “F--- Saddam. We’re taking him out.”
Bush offered his pithy judgment after sticking his head in the door of a White House meeting between National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and three senators who had been discussing strategies for dealing with Iraq through the United Nations. The senators laughed uncomfortably at Bush’s remark, Time reported. [Time story posted March 23, 2003]
Who are the senators who laughed uncomfortably? And what about Rice? Somebody should ask everyone at that meeting what was going on. And Bush should be asked about this until he answers. When he squirms, it should be noted. If Bush said this, he is an idiot and a proven liar for everything he has said since then.
Stupidity isn't an impeachable offense. Taking a country to war and lying about it are.
