AVOIDING REALITY
AVOIDING REALITY
The Cakewalk that Was to Be Iraq Is Now a Sad Parade of Clowns.
The elephants yet rumble that it doesn’t matter that there were no WMD, that there are no WMD. They continue to sell an item that was a bait and switch. We will continue to pay with money and blood.
Hear now the elephants. Regime change was a policy put in place by Clinton so don’t blame Bush for using it. War plans are always drawn up for potential conflict so we need not apologize for taking action. We don’t have to explain anything, least of all the Downing Street Memo.
James S. Robbins in The National Review cites a whole litany of reasons to discount the Downing Street Memo. And that tricky wicket about the WMD?
Unfortunately, so much emphasis was placed on the WMD rationale that the failure to turn up the expected weapons brought the entire regime-change effort into question. However, there were other ways the U.N. might have been engaged. The mismanagement and barefaced corruption of the “Oil for Food” program could have been leveraged for this same purpose.

HAT TIP: PANDAGON
Could have. Should have. Would have. These are the words of apologists after the fact trying to avoid worrisome facts. The president could have made all sorts of arguments for going to war. But he chose WMD, WMD and images of smoking guns and nuclear clouds. The administrations words were used to cloud what was previously said and known.
The President chose lies over truth and pulled one over on the American people. Honor the dead. Demand the truth."WE DO NOT have any direct evidence that Iraq has used the period since Desert Fox to reconstitute its Weapons of Mass Destruction programs..."
C.I.A. Report to White House in 2001
He has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors.
Said by Colin Powell in February of 2001But in terms of Saddam Hussein being there, let's remember that his country is divided, in effect. He does not control the northern part of his country. We are able to keep arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt.
